2,388 alien-smuggling sentencings in Texas in fiscal year 2025 marked a five-year low. Two contracts for the Big Bend region reached 1.7 billion and 2.6 billion dollars as the government opened public comment on barriers and roads through Brewster County, and prosecutors in the two Texas border districts announced 550 new immigration cases in a single week.

Federal courts sentenced 2,388 people under the alien-smuggling guideline in Texas in fiscal year 2025, the fewest in five years, even as the share of those cases involving a death climbed from 0.68% to 1.19% over the period.
