Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of Texas filed 1,601 criminal illegal reentry after removal cases, between April 1 and May 31, 2026. The two-month count averages about 800 filings a month, a pace that runs ahead of every month the district recorded in the first quarter, including March, its busiest month so far this year.
CBP Used More Force In Texas As Crossings Fell To Record Lows

Border Patrol apprehensions in the Texas sectors fell by about 70 percent between the first seven months of fiscal 2025 and the same months of fiscal 2026. The Border Patrol used force more often over that span, and measured against the people it caught, both its use of force and the assaults on its agents roughly tripled.
